The three settings

| In-home ABA therapy | The family home, daycare, preschool and the community | Yes, statewide in Colorado |
| School-based ABA therapy | A school that allows an outside provider | Yes, when the school approves |
| Center-based ABA therapy | A therapy center or clinic that the family travels to | No |
Health First Colorado lists school, office, home and community settings among the allowed places of service for pediatric behavioral therapy.[2]
Home and center compared
The Budding Futures ABA Therapy website compares the home setting with a clinic setting as follows.[1]
| Point of comparison | At home with Budding Futures ABA Therapy | Clinic-based ABA |
|---|---|---|
| Where skills are practiced | The kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and yard | A therapy room, with carryover to home practiced later |
| Parent involvement | Coaching in the moment, in the family's own routine | Scheduled parent sessions, usually at the clinic |
| Travel | The therapist travels to the home | The family travels to the clinic for each session |
| Peer practice | Siblings, playgrounds, daycare and community outings | Groups with other children at the clinic |
| Described as the better fit for | Potty training, mealtimes, bedtime, elopement and morning routines | A child who needs a quiet, highly structured room away from home distractions |
The same page states that a center-based program suits a child who needs a controlled room or daily peer practice.[1]
